Austin lives in Southern California, USA, and is a normal every day student. Like most students he would rather be doing something other than studying and for him that would be spear fishing all day every day.
Whether it’s hunting from reefs to blue water, his favorite style is hunting within the mystical underwater kelp forests throughout California, Baja California and Mexico where he is known for taking some very good size fish.

Although still young Austin is rather accomplished and by the age of sixteen he had already claimed an IUSA world record. And at the age of nineten he competed in the 2009 USA Spearfishing Nationals. I guess this is what happens when you start spearfishing at the age of thirteen! His skills as an underwater videographer are also very impressive. He has perfected the art of filming and spearfishing at the same time down to a fine art.

"I started filming and producing my own movies as a way to give others a look into this incredible and exciting way of life spearos are fortunate enough to have discovered. I am constantly loosing sleep thinking about a new place to dive, a new species to hunt, or a new way to capture the stoke."

He loves the unique variety of marine life one finds in these kelp forests. Strange leopard sharks, not dangerous to Spearo's, Black Sea bass weighting to try and steal a catch from divers and of course the White Ghost or most commonly known as the White Sea Bass. White Sea Bass are a fish that take some serious time in the water to be successful with. Austin spends countless hours floating amongst the kelp waiting for one of these Beauties to pass by.

On one occasion Richard Balta travelled with Austin to the paradise location of Baja Mexico in pursuit of many different species. One of these being an extremely powerful fish called the Gulf Grouper a specie known not only to break spear fishing gear, but also kill spearo's who are not careful. Here in Mexico Richard shot the world spearfishing record Gulf Grouper, a 155lb massive fish .
